Hi, We just want to post a quick note to let you know how much we appreciate your continued support. 2008 was a tough year with many changes. We managed to release 3 versions of phpChess and we released phpChess for the PC.

2009 will have an ambitious program and will be our busiest year yet. The following list is the asperational goal, but reality may differ.

1) Debug phpChess until as perfect as we can get it (includes clients)
2) reskin site to fit in with phpChess being GNU licensed.
3) Tournaments (bugbear for a long while now)
4) Online training and lessons
5) points based betting system

There are other elements but there is too much detail. We simply hope to stabalize phpChess so that it can do everything a basic chess site needs to have.

Have a great holiday, we will be back early in the new year.
Christian

delays delays and more delays

Hello all,

We are very sorry to have to announce the fact that we have been further delayed in releasing both the new version of phpChess - Server and the phpChess PC Client. This is due to the fact that we experiencing a challange in regards to the use of a functionality. When we started the project we were using what was then considered GNU licensed code. The license since then has changed, and while phpChess maintains that when the code was implemented we were licensed to do so, the provider insists on this code being now chargeable. The cost of the code is prohibitive. We are now facing the choice of either writing our own, finding a replacement or to continue with poublication rergardless. To avoid legal issues we are now persuing our own development.

On the server side the open challange is taking a little longer than expected but should be worth the wait.

We hope you can forgive us and hope you stick with it one more month.

All the best and kind regards
Christian

This is this time not due to the software development which concluded successfully. The delay is due to the fact that we had to create a new release of phpChess server edition. The new edition will have better security, faster access and a couple of other additional features including the open challenge, which anyone can accept.

We apologize for this delay but hope that we will make the wait worth your while.
phpChess Live! - UPDATE

phpChess Live! is becoming a reality for Blitz Chess
phpChess is indeed now going for the full real-time online experience. This did mean that we had to abandon the php framework for messaging. We are currently concentrating on creating a thin java client and a distince windows server which will be able to run full, real-time games much like any large server. William McKee from Canada is coding the engine and in collaboration we will distribute this server solution for chess by early 2009. Prices for this are to be determined by will definitly be lower then the $50,000 we were asked for per annum when we were looking for a solution ;)
